The Parametrization Problem for Algebraic Surfaces

The parameterization problem asks for a parameterization of
an implicitly given surface, in terms of rational functions in
two variables. We give an overview on the history of this problem,
including recent algorithmic solutions and open questions.

The problem is related to the parametrization problem for curves and
to the problem of resolution of singularities.
